Lancer Marching Band

History

The Londonderry High School Lancer Marching Band, with over 180 members, is New Hampshire’s largest and most well-traveled marching band. Patriotically attired in a red, white, and blue, traditional, military Cadet-style uniform, the Lancers always perform music that is upbeat and lively, performing continuously throughout every parade. With an enthusiastic level of support from both Friends of Music, as well as the community at large, they have been honored to represent the State and New England region on many distinguished occasions, including the 2009 and 2013 Presidential Inaugural Parades in Washington, D.C. Over the years, the Lancers have also had the privilege to participate in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade (CA) an unprecedented five times (2018, 2011, 2004, 1997 & 1992), the Citrus Bowl Parade in Orlando (2015, 2002), and the Miami Orange Bowl Parade (2000). They annually march in the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade on 5th Avenue and have made multiple appearances at Walt Disney World (FL) and Disneyland (CA).

In June of 2008, the Lancers were thrilled to represent the United States in China at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Cultural Festival. While there, the Lancers presented five performances, including one on The Great Wall. Other events over the years include performing aboard the JFK Aircraft Carrier for the Parade of Tall Ships in Boston Harbor (2000), as well as for many New England sporting events including NASCAR races, the Boston Celtics (annually since 2007), the New England Patriots, and for the Manchester Monarchs hockey team. While in California for the 2011 Rose parade, they also performed on the ice for the Los Angeles Kings (NHL) at the Staples Center.

Community service is a regular component of all our programs. Some of these activities include a band performance for the NH Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony each year at the State House in Concord, which honors fallen law enforcement officers, and the annual Veteran’s Day breakfast before the Londonderry Veteran’s Day Parade. Following two devastating earthquakes, the Band raised over $5,000 for the Japan Green Band in 2011, and over $2,000 for the victims of Chengde, China, in 2008. The Lancers and their families also participate in an annual food drive during football season, a yearly Dana Farber performance for families affected by cancer, as well as provide ensembles for a variety of local tributes and patriotic celebrations.
